Pixy Stix and Pick-Me-Ups: How your Energy Affects your Pageant Performance

When I began my rodeo queen career in 2009, it was not uncommon to see girls at pageants with bags of candy, cans of energy drinks and "rodeo queen cocaine" AKA Pixy Stix.

Any pageant pro can attest to the intense amount of energy at play during a pageant. Every girl is trying to showcase their personality and their ability to be outgoing.

For some this is easy, for others it takes a little more work and maybe even a burst of energy.

The assortment of sweets and soda pops at those early pageants served as an energy-based power plant hyping girls up on sugar rushes in an attempt to over come fears and showcase bubbly personalities.

While it was an effective approach, there are far better and more genuine ways to collect the energy and confidence necessary for competition.

Confidence Boost

Having energy going into a pageant can greatly impact your confidence levels. With more energy you are more likely to not only perform well, but present yourself well

Instead of relying on a sugar kick, begin preparing for your pageant weeks and even months in advance. The sooner you start practicing the more time you have to work through any difficulties and the less time you will spend "binge preping" later on.

If you wait till the last second there is a good chance that you will loose out o valuable practice, but valuable rest time as well. Procrastinating forces you to center all your energy on the pageant right before it happens which not only effects your performance but your energy and confidence as well.

Genuine Personality

Bubbly and outgoing personalities are so commonly applauded in the rodeo queen world that it can appear to be as important as the cowboy hat and boots.

While an outgoing and cheerful demeanor is very helpful in the role of a rodeo queen, these attributes must not be faked or artificially stimulated with candy.

Not every personality is as flamboyant as others, but even without sugar or a natural spark, genuine personality can and will trump these all.

Recognize your strengths and weaknesses when incomes to communicating with others. Once you understand what you are good at and what you struggle with you can work on your weaknesses while truly showcasing your strengths.

This will ensure that not only your true energy is on full display but your genuine personality as well.

Cancel the Candy

Pixy Stix and energy drinks have been effective tools in the past, but their influence is temporary and artificial.

The best way to truly energize and showcase your personality and qualifications for a rodeo queen title I by preparing well in advance and recognizing your personal strengths and weaknesses.

What qualifies you to be a representative of rodeo is not the amount of crazy fun and engird you can possess, but rather who you are.
