Ready, Set, Rodeo Queen! Preparing Applications for the 2021 Pageant Season


Sweat pants and messy buns replaced wrangler jeans and rodeo queen curls.


COVID-19 concerns resulted in lockdowns and social distancing mandates as well as the cancelation of many fairs, rodeos and pageants during the 2020 season.


Almost a year after the pandemic induced panic began, states and businesses are opening up and rodeos are back underway in almost full force.


As these rodeos return, so will their need for royal representatives.


So as the 2021 rodeo queen pageant season approaches and you prepare to fallout applications, consider these three tips to make yours stand out.

 

First Impressions Matter

When filling out your application never overlook the importance of a good introduction.


It can be easy to overlook the universal question 'tell me about yourself," but this is the best time to set yourself apart.


Don't skimp on this section or give the old faithful: My name is ______ followed by a three line speech about your home town.


While where you come from is an important part of your life it is not who you are. This section is for the judges to get a glimpse into your character and goals and the traits that make you a good fit for the position.


Think about what your values are and what you're passionate about. Make your writing concise and professional, but ensure that you are genuine and provide an accurate insight into who you are and what is important to you.

 

Thorough, but Concise

Your answers should not be long but they shouldn't be short either.


Don't ramble and be sure to use active language. This will ensure that your are able to express your thoughts in an effective and manner and engage your judges in learning about you.


Although you don't want to ramble, don't skip over good information. The judges are sing this application to get a better sense about you and why you want to be a rodeo queen.


Think your answers through and don't be afraid to add your personal experiences and personality.

 

Don't Overlook the Small Details

The smallest thing can make the biggest difference.


Make sure your application looks neat and professional. Fill it out with a computer if possible or with clean and legible hand writing.


Check your application for proper grammar and spelling or even ask a friend or associate to look it over.


Even something so simple as cleaning formatting and centering your phone number can make the difference between looking like you care and looking like a teenage procrastinating their homework.

 

Time to Shine

Filling out applications is a great aspect of a rodeo queen pageant.


It is your time to truly explore who you are and let that show through. Take your time when filling out your applications and recognize the importance of being genuine and professional.
